Conservation of Critically Endangered Galapagos Petrel

With HX Foundation support, Fundación Jocotoco protects the critically endangered Galapagos Petrel by removing invasive species and improving nesting habitats on San Cristóbal island. The reserve now hosts 199 cavities across 7 colonies, with 30 active nests producing 22 fledglings in 2022, compared to 12 nests and 4 fledgings in previous years.

Efforts such as predator control, nest monitoring, and fencing have created safar environments for petrels to thrive and enabled a record count of 25 breeding pairs, safeguarding critical habitats for future generations.

Support Vulnerable Youth in Greenland

The Association of Greenlandic Children is committed to ensuring all Greenlandic children grow up with safety, opportunity, and hope. Since 2015, the HX Foundation has proudly supported their vital work, renewing our partnership for three more years in 2023.

Through educational programs and mentorship, they help young people succeed. Their "buddy" service offers mentorship and companionship to vulnerable youth, while their initiatives address the concerning rise in violence among 12- to 16-year-olds. Each year, they also organize summer camps in remote villages, nurturing creativity, resilience, and learning in local children.

Blue Corridors and Impact of Climate Change on Whales in Antarctica

Onboard the MS Fridtjof Nansen, renowned whale experts from UC Santa Cruz, Stanford University, and Duke University are using cutting-edge technology, such as drone imagery and tissue sampling, to map essential whale migration routes known as “blue corridors.”

Their research also investigates how shifting sea ice and krill availability impact whale pregnancy rates, stress, and nutrition, revealing crucial data on how Antarctic baleen whales respond to changing conditions. This study aims to inform better conservation measures to protect these majestic creatures in the face of climate change.
