The 1896 Cabin – Exclusively on MS Fridtjof Nansen
Step aboard and step back in time. We invite guests on MS Fridtjof Nansen to experience life as the early adventurers did 130 years ago.
130 years ago, at the dawn of expedition cruising, we set out from mainland Norway to Svalbard on a pioneering voyage – one that sparked the spirit of exploration that still carries HX forward today as the leader in Arctic and Antarctic expedition cruises.
To mark this special anniversary, guests travelling aboard MS Fridtjof Nansen in 2026* have the chance to stay in our new 1896 Cabin experience, one booking per guest.
A Night in the Past
The 1896 Cabin is more than a place to sleep. It offers a glimpse into the early days of expedition travel, immersing you in what life was like on these journeys 130 years ago.
Imagine the glow of oil lamps flickering across wood-panelled walls, a warm light radiating from the stove, and the scent of timber mingling with the salty air. Around you, stories of courage, hardship, and discovery come alive – of those who braved uncharted waters with little more than grit and a compass.
A Journey Forward
Your night in the 1896 Cabin doesn’t just honour the past; it helps shape the future.
Half of all profits made by the 1896 cabin will support the HX Foundation, funding conservation projects, and community projects around the world, contributing to our anniversary goal of raising £130,000 per ship in 2026.
