Sail the length of the Atlantic from the Caribbean tropics to the sub-Antarctic south, tracing the ocean's great currents across 20 days.

Experience three contrasting stops: the coral warmth of Barbados, Afro-Brazilian culture in Salvador, and Ushuaia's Antarctic frontier.

Enjoy long, relaxed days at sea with Expedition Team lectures on oceanography, astronomy, marine wildlife, and the ecosystems you're passing through.

The Atlantic, end to end

Your journey begins in Bridgetown, the colourful capital of Barbados. From here, sail south along a natural migration corridor used by seabirds, marine mammals, and pelagic species, watching the ocean shift from tropical Caribbean warmth to the sub-Antarctic waters off Tierra del Fuego.

Cities, science, and sea

Along the way, experience the energy of Salvador, one of Brazil's most compelling cities. During long days at sea, the Expedition Team delivers lectures covering everything from Afro-Brazilian culture to oceanography and astronomy, connecting the dots between the ecosystems you're crossing.

Atlantic Passage – Barbados to Ushuaia

Reiserute

Din reise i korthet. Daglige høydepunkter, inkluderte aktiviteter og valgfrie tillegg for å gjøre opplevelsen uforglemmelig.

Explore the beaches and architecture of Barbados

Your voyage begins on the Caribbean island of Barbados. Edged by vibrant blue waters and brimming with lively bars and restaurants, Bridgetown offers warm Barbadian hospitality from the moment you arrive. At your leisure before embarkation, stroll through the colourful streets of the city centre and take in the UNESCO-listed Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison, inscribed in 2011 as a testament to three centuries of British colonial maritime history.

In the afternoon, board MS Roald Amundsen. Settle into your cabin and meet the Expedition Team, who'll be sharing their knowledge throughout your 20-day journey south.

Science and stargazing at sea

On this stretch of time at sea, the ocean is the itinerary. The facilities on board MS Roald Amundsen are yours to enjoy as you wish, whether that’s watching the horizon from the infinity pool, working out in the fitness centre with a view, or perhaps sharing stories with fellow travellers in the Explorer Bar & Lounge. The Expedition Team might offer sessions covering a range of topics from oceanography to the geology of the coastline ahead.

Experience the city’s pulsing energy

Brazil's former colonial capital is one of Latin America's most captivating cities. African, indigenous, and Portuguese cultures collide here to create an atmosphere that's entirely its own. Stroll the cobbled streets and rainbow-coloured houses, or perhaps visit the Barra Lighthouse, one of the oldest navigational beacons in the Americas, which is now a fascinating maritime museum close to several swimmable beaches, perfect for cooling off after hours of exploring.

Crossing the South Atlantic

This is the longest and most transformative stretch of your voyage. Nine days at sea as you sail from the Brazilian tropics into the sub-Antarctic waters off Tierra del Fuego. Watch the scenery and the ocean change around you: warm blues giving way to the deeper, darker Atlantic. In the evenings, stargaze under increasingly clear southern skies. Make the most of your final days aboard: the sauna, the hot tubs, the spacious decks, and the company.

End at the tip of South America

Your voyage ends in Ushuaia, the capital of Tierra del Fuego and Argentina's southernmost city, where the Andes meet the Beagle Channel. From here, you'll take a flight to Buenos Aires. It doesn't have to be the end of your adventure: why not join our optional post-voyage programme before heading home, or even join an expedition cruise south to Antarctica: the Seventh Continent.
