Journey to the Volcano Top

Starting with a bus tour from Stykkishólmur, we’ll drive to the base of Snæfellsjökul volcano, and from there, a snowcat will take you to the summit. 

Towering at 4744 ft above sea level and topped with a glacier, Snæfellsjökull is a spectacular location that inspired part of Jules Verne’s famous novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth".  On your thrilling journey up to the glacier, there will be plenty of stops to drink in the spectacular scenery and capture the view with incredible photographs.

  • Remarks/requirements: This tour takes place at altitude and over glacial ice, so warm clothing is essential, including a hat and gloves. Transfer time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Please note that this tour is weather dependent. Guests are kindly asked to observe the guide’s instructions at all times.  

  • Walking and activity information: Walking and activity information: need distance, duration, terrain, difficulty, and level of fitness required. Involves moderate physical activity over relatively level surfaces and gentle terrain, including snow and ice.
