Enjoy an invigorating hike in the wilderness of Streymoy, the largest of the Faroe Islands.
  • Take a cross-country hike to the Streymoy Sill, which overlooks mountain tarns and outcrops.

  • Admire the layered geology of the Faroes and learn about their volcanic and glacial origins.

  • Take in the peaceful sounds of lapping waves and gushing streams in the village of Leynar.

  • Enjoy unparalleled vistas of fjords and distant islands on the return trip to Tórshavn.

Geological Wonders

After boarding a bus from the harbor, we’ll drive alongside Kaldbak fjord to the trailhead, marveling at distinctive Faroese geology as we go.

We’ll then begin our hike uphill toward the top of the columnar basalt of the Streymoy Sill, which sits at around 919 feet above sea level. We’ll pause when we reach the summit to admire the surrounding tarns and outcrops, which have been sculpted smooth by ancient glaciers.

Following the path down the mountain, we’ll head to the romantic seaside village of Leynar to explore before returning to Tórshavn.
