On Top of the World 

This 2-mile round-trip hike under the guidance of a representative from the Museum of the Aleutians takes you up historic Bunker Hill on Unalaska Island. 

After a short transfer from the pier to your starting point, your hike takes you along the WWII-era gravel road to the pinnacle of Bunker Hill, where you can bask in the 360-degree views of Dutch Harbour and Captains Bay, and witness the remnants of war-time fortifications. As you hike, you’ll delve into the cultural and historic significance of the area, and look out for wildlife like Bald Eagles, Lapland Longspurs and perhaps even foxes and harbour porpoises. 

Practical information

  • Remarks/requirements: Please wear layered, waterproof clothing and sturdy hiking shoes/boots. Binoculars are recommended. 

  • Walking information: Involves a high level of physical activity over an extended period, in terrain that may often be uneven, slippery and steep. You are expected to carry your own backpack and equipment. Not suitable if you have limited mobility. The hike is a 2-mile round trip with 72-ft evaluation gain. The hike follows a gravel road. There is a short transfer included from the pier to the start point of the Hike.
