This protected area is a delight to explore on foot with white beaches, dunes, craggy cliffs and coves. Join a local guide to explore the island on foot perhaps reaching the panoramic viewpoint at Alto do Principal or explore at leisure.
Practical information
Remarks/requirements: Journey 45min- 1 hour each way to/from the islands by public local boat. Visitor numbers to the islands are strictly controlled and HX needs to supply passport information to the authorities to obtain tickets. The excursion is subject to availability, local weather and sea conditions.
Walking or Activity information: Walking trails on the island vary between 3-7km on tracks. Alto do Principal viewpoints is approx. 3km with some short steeper inclines. Involves physical activity on uneven surfaces and/or steep terrain. You may be expected to carry your own backpack and equipment. Not suitable if you have limited mobility.
