This excursion takes you to the highest point on the Haines Peninsula on a challenging but rewarding hike.

A hiker's challenge

Enjoy a scenic drive through Fort Seward and along the Haines Peninsula to the Mt. Riley's trailhead. The hike begins with rolling terrain through temperate rainforest before winding up the mountain. The goal is the summit, which promises a fantastic 360-degree view of the Lynn Canal and beyond. Along the way, your guide will talk about native flora and fauna, and you'll stop for a picnic lunch.

Remarks/requirements: Restrooms are available at the pier. Please wear comfortable hiking shoes/boots. A small backpack and warm layers are recommended. In May, this excursion is dependent on snow conditions.

Walking information: Involves a high level of physical activity over an extended period, in terrain that may often be uneven, slippery and steep. You are expected to carry your own backpack and equipment. Not suitable if you have limited mobility. Approx. 5-8 mi of walking, with about 1,500 ft of elevation gain.
